First, it was discretely packaged in a standard brown amazon box, inside was a box for the hood itself and some bubblewrap. The box does confirm it is from China, and advertises it about the same as the Amazon listing does. If you buy the set with the harness, arm bands, and collar, they will all come in this one box, so don't be too worried that you lost something in the mail. It smells a tad chemically, but not like I had expected. I am pretty averse to strange smells but so far, after wearing this about an hour, haven't had any issues.
The hood and harness were loosely folded inside, with some noticeable wrinkles once unpacked, but nothing that hasn't come out. The black sections of neoprene appear to just be rubber material, it has some slight grip to it but feels soft, and has a nice stretch and squish to it. The colored neoprene is more of a traditional neoprene, rubber center and polyester shell on both sides. It is also soft and stretchy but has a bit more structure to it, which holds the muzzle shape nicely. Speaking of, my muzzle is currently a bit off center but I don't think its anything stretching it out won't fix. The ears have a flat, flexible piece of wire inside which allows for some semi-dynamic posing. The wire feels pretty sturdy but I would imagine you don't want to bend it back and forth a bunch at one time. They're a standard upright ear, with one side black rubber and inside colored neoprene. The muzzle has 6 small holes punched in either side, more for looks than ventilation as there is no bottom jaw of any sort, except the chin strap. The nose and bridge of the muzzle is all one piece of black rubber neoprene, with color neoprene forming the jowls on either side. This hood also has a unibrow, one strip of colored neoprene across the top of the eyes, which the muzzle snaps to in the center. There are five small black plastic snaps in total, two on each side and one on the brow. They snap easily and aren't painful at all. Other than that, not much else to say. The body of the hood is all black rubber neoprene, with raw edges on the eye and mouth holes, and a sewn edge along the bottom, aside from the chin strap.
I purchased the Large option after measuring my head, and it fits quite nice. It's good and snug all around, perhaps a bit too tight on the chinstrap but nothing a good breaking in can't fix. The eye and mouth holes are a tad bit small for my liking, but I'm a crafty pup and I have a pair of scissors I might use to carefully shave off some pieces. I will say that the spot between the eyes and mouth holes, which is usually covered by the bridge of the muzzle, seems a bit thin, and I'd suggest being gentle on any stretching in that spot since it might eventually break. Easy to pull on and pull off, similar to a snug fursuit head if you have any experience with that.
The harness, arm bands, and collar are all made of neoprene as well. The harness is primarily black rubber neoprene with a colored polyester edge, and the collar and arm bands are colored neoprene with a black polyester edge. The harness is all one piece with no fixtures or rings, the arm bands have about a 4 inch strip of what appears to be a good quality velcro, and the collar has black metal fixings: a belt-type buckle, about 6 inches of metal eyelets, and one D ring. The metal is smooth and clean, no sharp edges and no jutting pieces. It fit very comfortably, although you should always check for sharp edges before wearing. The harness was a bit too large for me, but again, I am a crafty pup and can size it down if I so please. I sort of dislike the way the front cross strap folds out when I push my shoulders forward, but that's not the fault of the manufacturer. The arm bands are nice, they weren't really a selling point for me, but I appreciate having a whole set now that I have tried it on. They may be more prone to sliding off it you have smaller biceps than some.
I wanted to give a very detailed description to make up for the lack of reviews on this product, and holy moly did I write a lot. Sorry haha. It's pretty solid, and a really good first choice if you're looking to just try it out or save some money.
TLDR:
Packaging: 5/5 - very discreet, folded only once or twice, left no permanent wrinkles (although if it gets lost in the mail system the wrinkles may have time to set in.)
Materials: 5/5 - soft, stretchy, good quality, provides a gentle squeeze on your head
Construction: 4/5 - some nice big seams that will likely hold for some time, however the space between the eyes and nose may be weak to stretching
Shipping: 5/5 - I ordered this on the 31st and was told it may take 2 weeks, but was surprised when it shipped out within a few days. Received on the 8th.
Cost: 5/5 - $50 for a hood alone is a good price, but add in a some extra bits to turn your hood into a whole set and you've got a good deal, especially at this quality. A good bargain for someone stepping into pet play.
